In my two months in New York, I… (in no particular order…)

- Photographed the front-yard shrines of brownstone Brooklyn.
- Saw Zosia Mamet and Alex Karpovsky filming Girls.
- People watched (and flew on the magnificent Soaring Eagle with pre-teen boys) at Coney Island.
- Grew obsessed with Gallery Girls after a friend scored me an invite to the launch party.
- Traversed the streets of Soho at Fashion’s Night Out.
- Met Macaulay Culkin at his art launch.
- Met Michelle Trachtenberg at the Global Citizen Festival.
- Met Katie Roiphe at her book reading in Cobble Hill, and told her that despite being paid to argue with her, I admired that she was interesting enough to argue with.
- Did not meet Lena Dunham or Tavi despite multiple emails to their publicists.
- Watched and listened to Martin Amis speak under the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Saw Wicked and Nice Work If You Can Get It on Broadway.
- Caught up and connected with many of my feminist ladyblogger friends and made some new ones.
- Had alternately uplifting and disheartening meetings with my publisher.
- Scoffed five Magnolia Bakery cupcakes in a single week after avoiding it altogether for the rest of the trip.
- Became obsessed with New York magazine, which I now think is actually better than the New Yorker (scandal!).
- Read opposite a friend in a film audition.
- Interviewed Jessica Valenti for a forthcoming Daily Life story.
- Ate a lot of burritos, of varying quality.
- Fell in love with the work of Yayoi Kusama at the Whitney Gallery.
- Wrote and people watched in Washington Square Park.
- Eavesdropped in Union Square.
- Pretended I knew stuff about high fashion at Saks Fifth Avenue and Barneys.
- Became a power yoga devotee, until I realised it was making me less flexible rather than more.
- Looked at art I couldn’t afford to buy in Chelsea.
- Fell in love with New York’s improv scene at Made-Up Musical and a political comedy show I can no longer remember the name of (it was very good).
- Stood on the face of the Statue of Liberty (or a replica of it, at any rate) on Governor’s Island.
- Zumba-danced on the streets in Noho.
- Went to a food truck festival.
- Got rained out at the baseball.
- Took Mr Musings to Williamsburg so he could stare at hipsters.
- Sang along to Rent, Wicked, Chicago and Anything Goes at an underground musical theatre bar in the West Village.
